In a letter to the Governor, Wadettiwar highlighted the widespread destruction across Marathwada, Vidarbha, and Western Maharashtra, where torrential downpours have wiped out over 4 lakh hectares of crops, eroded farmlands, destroyed homes, and claimed human and livestock lives. He warned that the situation has left farmers and ordinary citizens in dire straits, demanding urgent intervention.
The Congress leader called for the immediate declaration of a “wet drought”, alongside a comprehensive financial aid and rehabilitation package for affected farmers and civilians. He reiterated the party’s demand for a full farm loan waiver, urging the government to fulfill its promises. Wadettiwar also pressed for quick assessments of crop and property damages to ensure timely compensation.
Infrastructure damage has worsened the crisis, with electric poles and wires downing power supply in several districts. Washed-out roads have severed transport links, while contaminated water has triggered health concerns in flood-hit areas.
“This unprecedented disaster demands swift and decisive action. Only through open discussion in the Assembly can we deliver relief to the people and steer the state out of this catastrophe,” Wadettiwar stated.
Opposition parties, including Congress, have accused the state administration of delayed response and poor preparedness. With rescue operations ongoing and thousands in temporary shelters, pressure is mounting on the Mahayuti government to deliver swift and effective relief measures.
