Women officers shine

In a recent post, Mumbai Police called these officers the “pillar of hope”, commending their bravery in rescuing victims from human trafficking and forceful sex work rackets. The caption of the post read, “Every Rescue Sparks a New Beginning.”

The video features Inspector Jyotide Bhidas’s father introducing the initiative, followed by Police Sub-Inspector Suvarna Ganpat Patil, who shared details of the unit’s ongoing fight against trafficking in Mumbai. Patil explained, “We have women and young girls here who were lured by Unethical Human Trafficking Organisations. So far, we have helped 70-80 women.”

The unit has rescued victims from across India as well as abroad, including 10 women brought from other countries under false pretences. Patil added that nearly 150–200 accused have been arrested in connection with these crimes.

One case highlighted in the video involved a young woman from Bangladesh who was promised a job in a beauty parlour but was trafficked into the sex trade. Patil recalled, “She had no idea what she was going to do in Mumbai. She was beaten and forced to work. When we rescued her, she was very happy and proud of her work.”

Patil also emphasized the importance of support networks for survivors, noting the unit’s efforts in restoring dignity and hope. The video shines a light on the dark realities of human trafficking while celebrating the dedication and empathy of Mumbai Police’s women officers.

Their work not only brings justice to victims but also transforms lives, empowering survivors to reclaim their freedom and dignity.
