The loss of such a young and promising professional has deeply impacted the airline. In a statement, an Air India Express spokesperson expressed their sorrow, stating, "We deeply regret the loss of a valued colleague due to a medical condition. Our thoughts are with the family during this time of profound grief. We are extending all possible assistance to them as we all cope with this tremendous loss."
The airline also requested the public to respect the privacy of the family, asking for sensitivity and understanding as they work with the relevant authorities in addressing the situation.
This tragic event highlights the ongoing concerns regarding pilot fatigue and wellness, an issue that has been increasingly scrutinized in the aviation industry. In response to growing concerns, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India has already proposed a phased roadmap to tackle pilot fatigue. This includes raising the required weekly rest for pilots from 36 to 48 hours starting in July 2025. Furthermore, the roadmap outlines plans to reduce night flying hours from November 2025, aiming to ensure the well-being of flight crews.
As the industry grapples with this heart-wrenching loss, the focus on pilots' health and safety continues to grow in importance, underscoring the need for further measures to safeguard the lives of those in the skies.
